Have you ever learned a new word and then, immediately after learning it, you hear it and see it everywhere you go? For me, it’s the same way with watermelon. I see it everywhere. Only it’s not a word, but a delicious food. And rather than a new interest, it’s something I’ve loved my whole life.
As a watermelon lover and someone who writes about watermelon on a regular basis, my senses are finely tuned to pick up on anything watermelon-themed. For example, walking through my local grocery store the other day, I spied the familiar red and green color combination of the watermelon cookies above from a mile away.
I didn’t buy the cookies, even though they apparently taste like watermelon, but this was just one more example of how watermelon really does seem to be all around us. Not just in baked goods, either. I see it on the covers of magazines. I see it on TV. I see it on fingernails. Heck, I even see on aprons!
Sure, watermelon is popular every summer, but is watermelon more popular this year than it has been in recent years? I’m inclined to think that it is. Even though watermelon has always been an all-American staple, it seems especially trendy in 2013, don’t you think?
Feel free to leave a comment below mentioning a few of the places you’ve seen watermelon popping up in recent days. And if you haven’t had any watermelon sightings, that’s okay. Now that you’ve read this blog entry, it will be just like learning a new word – you’ll starting seeing watermelon everywhere!
