This winter has not been kind to my watermelon habit. While grocery shopping the other day, I realized that I’d only eaten watermelon twice in the past month. Twice! That’s completely unacceptable, especially for a guy who calls himself “The Watermelon Guy.”
In the spring and summer, I eat watermelon four or five times a week. I eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. Sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night, stumble downstairs to the kitchen, and gobble an entire wedge of watermelon while I stare blankly at our dog, who’s staring blankly back at me.
In my defense, this winter has been especially busy for me. The absence of the bin-o-watermelons in my grocery store has also impacted the frequency of my meals. Neither are very good excuses, though. My grocery store still sells pre-cut watermelon wedges and whole mini watermelons.
In the interest of making myself feel a little better (or a lot worse), I’m asking a simple question: How many times in the past 30 days have you eaten watermelon? Feel free to register your answer in the poll on the right and sound off with a comment below with some input about your summer vs. winter consumption habits.
Does eating a watermelon and feta salad at a local BJ’s restaurant count? If so, then once so far this month.
Last watermelon I had was in October on a buffet. It was yummy too.
