RECIPE: WATERMELON WINE SPRITZERS

One thing I didn’t include in Tuesday’s entry about my favorite watermelon recipes is a beverage recipe. That’s mainly because I’ve never really made any drinks with watermelon, which is, I’ll admit, completely unacceptable.

If I were to reverse that trend today, I’d do so with a watermelon wine spritzer. I should point out that I’m more of a beer guy than a wine guy (and no, I still haven’t tracked down that watermelon beer), but every now and then I do enjoy a glass of Merlot or, in the case of this recipe, chardonnay.

WATERMELON WINE SPRITZERS

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups small cubed chilled seedless watermelon
  • 1 bottle chilled Chardonnay
  • 2 tablespoons grenadine syrup
  • 12 ounces chilled sparkling mineral water

DIRECTIONS

Divide the watermelon among 6 to 8 white wine glasses, then divide the wine, grenadine, and sparkling water among the glasses and give them a quick stir. Serve immediately. Makes 6 to 8 spritzers (or one really, really big one).
