Now that that’s out of the way, I’m very excited to announce that a San Francisco brewery called 21st Amendment Brewery – named after the constitutional amendment repealing Prohibition – has created a watermelon infused beer called Hell or High Watermelon Wheat Beer. (Thanks to my fellow watermelon-loving friend, Bill, for alerting me to this delicious concoction.)
The brewery’s website describes the beer thusly:
We start by brewing a classic American wheat beer, which undergoes a traditional secondary fermentation using fresh watermelon. (The result is a) straw-colored, refreshing beer with a kiss of watermelon aroma and flavor.
Upon learning about this beer, I was immediately overjoyed at the thought of the combination of two of my favorite summertime indulgences (okay, year-round indulgences). But my joy soon turned to sorrow when I realized that 21st Amendment Brewery was a small beer maker on the West Coast, which meant that my East Coast location, combined with the limited distribution of most small breweries, would prevent me from sampling this heavenly ale.
But alas, my sorrow became joy again when I discovered that Hell or High Watermelon Wheat Beer is indeed available at select distributors on the East Coast, including a few only an hour or two from my house! Ahh, life is good again, and it’ll get even better when I get my hands on some of this beer. Stay tuned!

I will be traveling to San Francisco next week to test this beer. It is made with real watermelons! I wonder if they have a seedless beer?
Wow, you have to let me know what you think of the beer, Mark! Leave a comment or drop me an email with your opinion.
I’m going to try to find the beer at a specialty distributor around here, but you’ve definitely got the right idea by sampling this fine creation at its source.
I am back from San Francico and paid a visit to the 21st Amandment establishment while there. I tried the watermelon beer on draft that was smartly served in a chilled tall glass with a wedge of watermelon stuck on the rim. All the servers had watermelon shirts that are available for purchase. They also have watermelon mugs for only $1.50.
The beer is actually brewed in The Midwest and shipped back West. Verdict: 9 out of 10. Could of had a touch of more watermelon and less beer.
Great review, Mark! Your seal of approval has convinced me to the make the two hour trip to the beer distributor near me that sells this watermelon beer!
I live in washington and had this beer at an oktoberfest and just love it, where can I find it? Can anyone help me out!!!
Drinking one right now, couple sips in, not bad.
